BEWARE: Payment with cash will be impossible in Gelderland, Overijsel and Flevoland from the 24th of June onwards!
From Sunday the 24th of June, bus companies in the region of the East of the Netherlands with completely transfer to cashless payment. This includes the busses of Arriva in Achterhoek Rivierenland, Connexxion in Flevoland and North-East Overijssel, Breng in the region Arnhem-Nijmegen, and Keolis Nederland in Twente, Middle-Overijssel and the Veluwe. This decision has been made because of several robberies in 2016. Travelers will be able to pay by OV-chip card, an e-ticket (printed or on your smartphone) or by buying a ticket in the bus by card. This new regulation should improve the safety of the driver and the travellers.
As an addition, it will be possible to buy a ticket with cash at some OV-Service desks and some other shops in the region. Unfortunately, the number and spreading of these locations is insufficient and the opening hours are restricted. Most of the new international students and visitors only have cash to pay the bus during the first few weeks or months. We, as a union, are now trying to improve the situation and to get a selling point of cash tickets on campus by talking to the bus companies, the province and the university.
